I MINERALI PRESENTI NELLE CAVITA' DEI PROIETTI DELL'APPARATO VULCANICO DI VICO-ITALIA CENTRALE

Abstract

The volcanic area of Vico is of great interest the conspi­cuous presence of peculiar minerals found exclusively inside the cavities of holocrystalline blocks ejected during various phases of the volcanic activity. These blocks (ejecta and / or xenoliths) contain both newly discovered minerals, which have been recognized officially by the I.M.A., and very rare known species, often containing light elements such as B, Be, and F or heavy elements such as Th and U, and REE. The present work reviews the knowledge acquired so far on all these unusual mineralizations. The species considered of major mineralogie interest are described. Their main macroscopic physical characteristics and, in some cases, their chemistry are listed. Pictures of the most characte­ristic minerals are shown.
