Abstract: The Umbro-Marchean-Sabine thrust system is part of the Central Apennine fold-and-thrust belt of mainland Italy. The Centra! Apennine thrust belt is made up of a seri es of tectonostratigraphic units which are composed of sedimentary rocks originally deposited on the Jurassic-Cretaceous southem margin of Neotethys. At the present day, these units constitute a NE-verging tectonic wedge accreted during Neogene collisional and post-collisional processes. The thrusts and fold-related structures are characterized by an arcuate geometry; it may be attributed to the contro! exercised by the preexistent discontinuities (Jurassic and Cretaceous normal faults trending N-S and E-W of the passive margin and Miocene norma! faults connected with the foreland bending during Neogene thrust system development) and related to the rotation on the oblique thrust-ramps trending N-S and E-W.[...]
