Abstract: In this work the authors explain the results of the geologica! researches carried out in the area of Ancona, affected by the landslide of December 1982. The stratigraphic succession regarding the area involved in the great landslide of Ancona, is of the plio- pleistecenic period, and is represented by stratified marly clays. The plio-pleistocenic deposits are transgressive on Middle Pliocene and close with deposits of organogen bench in Montagnolo area. The principle and neighbouring area affected by the landslide have tectonic faults with appeninic direction, and are broken by transeverse faults. The last one limit towards North and South the landnslide area and are to be considered active. The present geomrphological bond, and mostly its recent development is mainly connected with the tectonic structures.
