Abstract

The huge landslide on the 13th December 1982 involved a large part of the slope, situated to the west of the outskirts of the city of Ancona, and extended from Montagnolo Hill (q.m. 251) to the sea. The genesis of the slope is connected to the generai uplif­ting that involved a large part of the Italian Penisnula from the end of the lower Pleistocene. The phenomena involved an area that showed typical characteristics of deep seated gravitational slope deformations reactivated at least severa! times during recorded history. The main morphological elements are represented by large and continuous scarps, trenches and valley bulgings at various altitudes, parallel to each other and to the coast. Mass movements, which were more superficial, disturbed this geomorphological setting dismembering the continuity of the main elements. [...]
