Abstract: | Geologica! and geotechnical marine surveys carried out in front of the landslide that occurred in the vicinity of Ancona on December 13th 1982, have supplied geomorpholo-gical and geologica! information on the sea bottom. The data collected are useful for a correct interpretation of general environmental problems and in particular of the landslide phenomenon. The area studied is located on the norhwestern extension of the Tavernelle syncline, whose substratum consists of clays and marls with sands of the lower Pliocene gently dipping towards South-West. The pliocenic formation lies under a chaotic landslide cover of 20-25 m that extends on the shoreline (Fig. 10.8). The pliocene crops out at sea close to the shore at first for about 400 - 500 m, where it is covered by a thin veneer of recent sediments. Further offshore, a prograding sediment cover, about 15 m thick, occurs. [...] |
