Abstract: | The easternmost part of the Southern Alps is represented by Carnic and Julian Alps and PreA!ps, corresponding to the Friuli area. Since Upper Cretaceous to Quaternary it suffered three distinct compressional phases respectively oriented NE-SW, N-S and about NW-SE. It is the most shortened sector of the whole Southern Alps mostly due to the Neogene N-S trending compressions. The main Neogenic tectonic features are represented by E-W trending thrusts and folds. The Chain is an accretionary belt induced by crustal underthrusting toward the North. [...] |
