Abstract: | This paper illustrates the structural styles at the front of the Northern Apennine fold and thrust belt (FTB) in the Adriatic Sea and is based on interpretation of more than 4000 km of multichannel seismic reflection profiles which have been tied to about 50 exploration wells. The northern Apennine is a FTB originated mainly during the Neogene within the converging Alpine and European plates, and is part of a continuos system of African vergent FTB that runs ali along North Africa, Sicily and Peninsular Italy. The front of the Northern Apennine is composed by several arcs, the longest and southernmost of which is present in the study area. [...] |
