LE FASI COMPRESSIVE NEOGENICO-QUATERNARIE NELL'APPENNINO SETTENTRIONALE: RELAZIONI CON L'EVOLUZIONE DEI BACINI INTERNI E CON LA TETTONICA DEL BASAMENTO

Abstract

Tue Neogene-Quaternary evolution of the Northern Apennines has been interpreted with the classic model of an eastward migrating compressive external front, coupled with an extension in the hinterland connected with the formation of the Tyrrhenian basin. However, in the last few years, new structural data have been collected both in the Neogene-Quaternary marine and continental sediments of the internal basins, and in the fron­tal zones of the thrust-belt. In both areas a complex struc­tural evolution has been reconstructed, allowing to distinguish major tectonic events affecting at the same time both areas. In particular, the Messinian and Late Pliocene, but also the Early Pliocene and Early-Middle Pleistocene events played an important role in the structural evolution of the North­ern Apennines. [...]
