MORFOMETRIA DELLE GHIAIE IN TRE SPIAGGE DEL LITORALE MARCHIANO MERIDIONALE

Abstract

The results of morphometric analysis of pebbles, selected seasonally from three beaches of the coastline of Marche region, is being reported hereby. From examinatiort - each granulometric class examined had a minium of 30 up to a maximum of 50-60 pebbles (64-32mm, 32-16mm, 16-Smm) - the sphericity index, OP index and form, defined by DoBKINS & FOLK (1970), was determined. These three indexes have been used in the study of three zones A, B and C with different grain-size identified on the beaches in question on the basis of the previous studies. A certain increment in the sphericity index values as well as of elongation of the pebbles has been verified in cor­rispondence with the decrease of the grain-size, with the passage of the superi or limit of the beach towards shore-line, with the increment of the slope of the three zones in wich the beach has been subdivided and with the continuos action exercised by the wave motion at the shore level.
