Abstract: An Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility study (AMS) has been performed on two extensional basin within the Centra! Apennines: Todi basin (Umbrian Apennine) and Fucino basin (Abruzzi Apennine). The investigation of the magnetic fabric of the Plio-Pleistocene argillaceous sediments of the two basin represents the purpose of the study. In detail the work was meant to give a contribution to the tectonic analysis of the two basins. The relations within the AMS ellipsoid and the strain one are well known; and in genera! it is allowed to consider as specular the two kind of data. Nevertheless the proceeeding of the work enhanced that the correspondance within the AMS data and the structural setting was satisfactory in only one section of the two analyzed basins. Further analyses, carried on the two areas, pointed out that in order to correlate structural data with the AMS ones a robust amount of addictional information are nedeed.
