Abstract: The analysed area is one of the most external parts of the Neogenic thrust system of the Centrai Apennines. The latter is characterized by the following regional thrust sheets: Gran Sasso, Montagna dei Fiori, Marrone and Maiella (Fig. 1). In the first three elements, different sectors of a Mes­sinian foredeep overly Triassic-Miocene carbonate platform, slope and pelagic basin sequences, while in the most eastern part of the area and in the Maiella Mountain, lower Plio­cene foredeep deposits crop out.
