Abstract: The north-western corner of the Latium-Abruzzi carbonate platform, facing North and West respectively the Gran Sasso and the Sabina transitional to basin areas, has been studied by stratigraphic and structural points of view. Geological evolution of the area, from upper Triassic to late Pliocene, has been drawn, taking in mind to explain the various influences of tectonics and eustacy on sedimentation. We suggest that (trans-)tensive tectonics caused the sinking of sectors of the investigated area from Cenomanian age, creating a topographic scenery in which sediments were deposited, being different the thickness and the facies, up to lower Miocene. These differences and the weakness hinges between adjacent sectors conditioned both the geometries and the mechanisms of the deformation of the main structures, during the Neogenic chain building. Alternative interpretations on some tectonic elements are discussed, particularly about the connection between the surface and the deep data from the Antrodoco 1 well.
