Abstract: The Fine VaHey is a neogenic extensional basin located south of the Arno river (Tuscany). In this area, in the Upper Tortonian-Lower Pliocene deposits three main depositional sequences have been recognized. Their boundaries seem to be controlled by tectonics and by sea level changes. First boundary surface (Upper Tortonian) is related to the first extensional event that generated horst and graben system and thus it has a tectonic control. The second boundary surface (Messinian p.p., lower portion of Non Distinctive Zone) come before the evaporitic deposition, which affected the whole Mediterranean area, and according to more recent assumption, is relateci to eustatic fluctuation.
