Abstract: A large area of the Tyrrhenian margin, including the Formia plain, Garigliano plain and Riardo plain, has been studied. A detailed geological-structural survey has been carried out. This area presents some specific topics which differenziate it from northern and southern zones. After the Apenninic chain building up, the Upper Pliocene-Pleistocene extension dislocates this sector. This disarticolation has been mainly caused by NW trending (Upper Pliocene) and NE trending (Lower-Middle Pleistocene) normal fault system. In this area preexisting E trending discontinuities acted as transfer faults. The NE trending fault system conditioned the evolution of regional morpho-structures area (Riardo plain and Garigliano Graben) and controlled the Roccamonfina volcano evolution.
