Abstract

The Roio-Pianola area should be considered a "key sec­tor" to understand the Pleistocene evolution of L'Aquila ba­sin, because of its central position between the Scoppito­L' Aquila basin and the Fossa-S. Demetrio one. Four lithologic units, Pleistocene in age, have been recog­nized: two of them can be referred to a lacustrine environ­ment (S. Rufina unit, Via Mausonia unit), one of them can be referred to debris-flow like deposits (Malepasso unit), the last one can be interpreted as hill-slope deposit (Canetre unit). [...]
