Abstract: A structural analysis carried out on the easternmost is­lands of the Aeolian Archipelago (Vulcano, Lipari, Salina, Panarea and Stromboli), the most active of the whole sys­tem, has shown that they represent the surface expression of NE-SW and NW-SE trending crustal discontinuities. All the structures are kinematically compatible with a N 100° E ex­tension direction related to a rifting process occurring in the Calabrian Are and Eastern Sicily. [...]
