Abstract: In this paper we report the results of a paleomagnetic test performed in two key-areas in the Umbria-Marche Apennines (centrai Italy; Fig. l); in the M.S. Vicino-Cingoli area (to the north) we sampled rock-types from two different thrust sheets separated by the M. Sibillini thrust, a major feature at the easternmost front of the mountain range; whereas in the M. Vettore area, rock-samples were collected within one single thrust sheet. Here, the locai structural setting differs from that of the M.S. Vicino-Cingoli area because of the occurrence of fault-bounded domains resulting from a late orogenie (Plio-Quaternary) extension. This (re)activate major (30 Km long) NW-SE trending "en echelon" fault belts (with strong dip-slip, normai, components) and minor pervasive N-S and E-W trending left and right lateral strike-slip faults.
