STRATIGRAFIA DEI DEPOSITI DI VERSANTE TARDO-QUATERNARI DEL BACINO DI RIETI: LA SEZIONE DE "LA CASETTA"

Abstract

Near Poggio Bustone village, at the north-east corner of the Rieti Basin (Centrai Italy), an aqueduct excavation pro­vide an unusually wide exposure of the late Pleistocene­Holocene slope sequence deposited within a saddle on the Mesozoic carbonate bedrock. Further trench investigations coupled with soil and grain-size analyses enable to define both geometry and stratigraphy of the sequence. The archaeolo­gical study of the artifacts occurring within the sequence combined with radiocarbon dating yielded a detailed chronology of the deposits. We recognize four main units, from top downward, 1) Historical soil on talus, 2) Holocene colluvial soil, 3) latest Pleistocene talus, and 4) late Pleistocene collu­vial soil. [...]
