A strong synsedimentary tectonic phase developed during the Middle Tortonian-Messinian - but already acting since the beginning of the Miocene, as showed by the lithologic and thickness differences occuring within the Bisciaro-Schlier sequence - subdivides the Camerino Basin into two main depressions: the small Collamato Subbasin, and the Matelica-Fiegni Subbasin. The turbidite deposition started during the Middle Tortonian in the deeper parts of the basins while the hemipelagic deposition of the Schlier goes on in the higher areas during the entire Tortonian. The Gessoso-solfifera Formation and the Colombacci Formation dose the Miocene sequence. [...]en_US
