Abstract: This paper illustrates new stratigraphic and depositional framework of a middle Miocene carbonate turbidites cropping out at the outer margin of the Southern Apennines, in the neighbourhood of Rotondella village (Basilicata region, Southern Italy). The present study was performed in order to obtain a more detailed data which are essential for the correct correlation of the above mentioned turbidites to a formal stratigraphic unit; infact, these deposits althought are mainly represented by calciclastic turbidites, are generally correlated to the Serra Palazzo Formation which is widespread along the Southern Apenninic front and is represented mainly by siliciclastic turbidites.
