Abstract: | This paper deals with the results of the rnicropaleontologic and biostratigraphic researchs còncerning the mesozoic carbonate sediments of the Aurunci Mountains (Southern Latium). The entire mesozoic sequence of carbonate platform facies in this area. extending from Upper Triassic to Upper Senonian, has been recostructed by means of seventeen partial stratigraphic sections: the total thickness is 3000 meters in excess (table I). Upper Paleocene carbonate sediments (Thanetian p.p.) 20-30 meters thick, disconformably lie above Upper Cretaceous (Coniacian p.p.) limestones, in the Eastem Aurunci Mountains only. The base of the Paleocene trasgression is marked by "Microcodium caliche", fil. ling the fractures of the underliyng Cretaceous limestones.[...] |
