Abstract: This paper deals with the results of the rnicropaleon­tologic and biostratigraphic researchs còncerning the mesozoic carbonate sediments of the Aurunci Mountains (Southern Latium). The entire mesozoic sequence of carbonate platform facies in this area. extending from Upper Triassic to Up­per Senonian, has been recostructed by means of seven­teen partial stratigraphic sections: the total thickness is 3000 meters in excess (table I). Upper Paleocene carbonate sediments (Thanetian p.p.) 20-30 meters thick, disconformably lie above Up­per Cretaceous (Coniacian p.p.) limestones, in the Ea­stem Aurunci Mountains only. The base of the Paleoce­ne trasgression is marked by "Microcodium caliche", fil. ling the fractures of the underliyng Cretaceous limesto­nes.[...]
