STRUCTURE AND KINEMATICS OF THE CETRARO UNIT, CALABRIAN ARC, ITALY

Abstract

Structural investigations and detailed geologica! mapping were carried out in the Coastal Chain of the Calabrian Are in arder to define the architecture of the thrust belt and the structu­ral history of the carbonate Cetraro Unit. The latter is made up by Triassic Phyllites covered by Metalimestones/Evaporites meta­morphosed to greenschist facies and, locally, to higher pressure. The thrust architecture of the Coastal Chain presents a pre­Tortonian nappe stack, characterized by low-angle contacts among thrust sheets, displaced by post-Messinian out-of-sequen­ce high-angle thrusts.
